Step 1

Two days in advance: Make pearls. Roll 117 fondant balls, 1/2 in. diameter. Let dry overnight. Using needle and dental floss, string together 6 strands using 12, 18, 19 (make 2 strands), 22 and 27 balls. Tie knots to join ends of each strand; trim off excess thread. Mix Pearl Dust with a small amount of vanilla; paint on pearls. Let dry overnight on waxed paper-covered board.

Step 2

Prepare 2-layer cakes for Stacked Construction. Prepare cakes for rolled fondant; cover cakes and smooth with Fondant Smoother. Position cakes on stand. Attach pearls to cakes with melted candy as follows: 12 and 18 pearl strand at base of 10 in. cake, 22 and one 19 pearl strand on top of 10 in. cake, 27 and 2nd 19 pearl strand on top of 6 in. cake; let set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This cake is even prettier in person! The reason I gave it a medium in difficulty is simply because of the stacking. This is the first cake I ever stacked, and it isn't anything to really worry about...now that I did it. I made my "pearls" a bit smaller, about 1/4", so they would more resemble real pearls and, therefore, added 3 or 4 more to each strand. I also rolled more pearls to put around the base of the 10" and 6" cakes and made my own flowers out of fondant. This is a beautiful cake and will "wow" anyone. Thank you for the inspiration!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I made this cake for a bridal shower and it turned out great. I made rose petal pink fondant balls to go around the cake instead of white, and used pink roses. This was my first stacked cake and it turned out great. I will say that in the picture on here, it looks to me like they are 3 layer cakes instead of 2. Mine looked a lot smaller even though they were normal size 2 layer cakes. Overall, a beautiful cake and not overly difficult.
