This Otterly Adorable Otter Cake is ready for some birthday fun! An easy cake to make and decorate, this otter cake is great for beginners and is easy to personalize with a birthday message or an “I’m Otterly Yours” note on top! Use Decorator Preferred fondant to add the otter’s features to this cake. With a sweet smiling face, this otter cake is sure to be the life of your party!
Bake cakes. Prepare cake batter following recipe instructions. Bake and cool three cake layers, trimming one layer to 1 in. for a 5 in. high cake.
Prepare icing. Prepare buttercream icing following recipe instructions. Using color combinations provided, tint 3 cups icing brown. Reserve remaining icing white.Using brown icing, spatula ice cake smooth. *Combine Brown and Black icing colors to get brown color shown.
Tint and shape fondant. Using fondant roller with purple guide rings, roll out fondant to 1/8 in. thickness. For whiskers, cut four strips, 3/16 in. x 2 in., and two strips, 3/16 in. x 2 ½ in. For mouth, cut one strip 3/16 in. x ¾ in. and one strip 3/16 in. x ¾ in. For eyebrows, cut two strips, 3/16 in. x 1 in. For eyes, using large end of tip 1A, cut out two circles. For ears, using “E” cut-out, cut out two circles. For nose, roll remaining fondant into egg-shaped circle, 2 in. x 3 in. Attach all fondant pieces to cake.
Decorate cake. Prepare decorating bag with tip 5 and reserved white icing. Pipe white dots on eyes and highlight on nose.
