Make candy curls. Melt two packages of white Candy Melts candy according to package directions. Add 4 tablespoons shortening; stir until melted. Divide melted candy into four equal portions. Use orange candy color from set to tint shades of peach, from light to dark.
Pour melted mixtures into mini loaf pans, 1 in. thick. Chill until set 25 to 30 minutes. Unmold and bring to room temperature. Use potato peeler or cheese slicer on narrow side of candy to make various sized candy curls.
Make candy heart plaque. Melt 8 oz. white Candy Melts candy according to package directions. Use orange candy color from set to tint to lightest peach color. Pour into heart pan, 1/2 in. thick. Reserve remaining melted candy. Chill until set 15 to 20 minutes. Unmold.
Use melted candy in cut parchment bag to pipe MOM. Chill until set 3 to 5 minutes. Use melted candy to attach cookie stick to back of heart. Chill until set.
Make cake. Prepare batter following recipe directions. Bake and cool 2-layer, 4 in. high cake. Place on a foil-wrapped cake circle.
Decorate cake. Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Use spatula and icing to ice cake smooth. Attach candy curls to icing before it has crusted, in gradual shades of darkest to lightest from bottom to top.
