Step 1

1 DAY IN ADVANCE

Make bowling ball cookie. Prepare and roll out cookie dough following recipe directions. Use second largest (4 1/4 in.) cutter from 4-pc. circles nesting metal cutter set to cut ball. Bake and cool cookie.

Step 2

Bake and cool crown cake. Cake is one layer, 2 in. high. Place cake on foil-wrapped cake board, cut to fit.

Step 3

Ice areas smooth. Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Tint portions violet/rose combination (for violet), Christmas red and black. Reserve remaining white. Use spatula and violet icing to ice cake top and sides smooth.

Step 4

Decorate bowling ball cookie. Use spatula and black icing to ice finger hole area smooth. Use wide end of tip 16 to mark finger hole outlines. Use tip 3 and black icing to outline finger holes. Position cookie on cake. Use tip 16 and black icing to fill in ball with stars.

Step 5

Complete cake. Use tip 3 and black icing to pipe motion lines and print message. Use tip 18 and violet icing to pipe shell bottom border.
