Additional Information

Step 1

Grease cake pan. Coat lightly with flour; set aside. Prepare cake mix as directed on package. Spread batter into prepared pan.

Step 2

Bake at 350°F for 35 to 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Remove from pan; cool completely on wire rack.

Step 3

Place cake on serving plate. Ice cake with frosting. Cut strawberries lengthwise into 1/4-inch thick slices. Arrange on top of cake as shown in photo.

Step 4

Pipe remaining frosting through star decorating tip to outline a smaller star shape on top center of cake. Pipe a second row of stars next to the first. Place blueberries inside frosting outline. Pipe additional frosting through star tip for border on cake as pictured. Brush fruit with jelly if desired.

Step 5

How to Make Stars: Using disposable decorating bag and star tip 18, hold bag straight up-and-down, 1/8 inch above surface. Squeeze until star is formed, then stop pressure and pull tip away. Stars will be neatly formed if you stop squeezing before you pull tip away.

July 4th Cake is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crowd pleaser for sure! Highly recommended design. I made this using a a triple layer vanilla bean family recipe. I loaded the bottom layer with fresh strawberry filling and the top layer with MI blueberry filling. I doubled the icing suggested. I wish I had dressed the top with the strawberries and blueberries at the party, there was very (very) slight bleeding. The cake weighed a considerable amout, thanks to my Wilton cake carrier we arrived in one piece. Overall a winner. Thanks, Wilton for the inspiration!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is a great cake to teach a child on. I made 3 of these cakes all in different flavors but with the same basic design for July 4th. My 12 year old neice and my 12 year old son wanted to learn so this was a great pan to teach them with. We had alot of fun...we each added our own flare to the cake while we designed them. They were the talk of the day. What a great family memory.
