This Fourth of July, pull out all the stops! Show your spirit with a three-layer cake surrounded by a flag-waving band of cookie patriots created with Girl and Boy Perimeter Cutters and topped by star cookie skyrockets.

Step 1

Make 17 girl and 15 boy cookies: Tint portions of dough brown and copper to create a variety of skintones (reserve remaining dough). Cut girls and boys; bake and cool. Using royal icing, outline and pipe in clothing with tip 3 (smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch). Pipe facial features and hair with tips 2 and 3.

Step 2

Make star cookies: Tint reserved dough red, white and blue. Using two smallest cutters, cut five small and three larger stars; bake and cool. Attach stick to back with royal icing, cut sticks for smaller cookies 8 to 10 in. Print tip 1 message in buttercream. Cut and curl ribbon streamers; tie to sticks.

Step 3

Prepare 1-layer cakes for stacked construction. Pipe tip 7 bead bottom border on 14 in. cake and tip 4 bead bottom border on other cakes. Insert star pops. Position kids on cake sides; attach flags to back of hands.
