Awe inspiring cookie tableau recreates the sweet nativity scene. Assemble gingerbread cookies to form a stable and decorate with wheat cereal “hay”. Gingerbread boy cookies are transformed into Mary, Joseph and baby.

Step 1

Prepare and roll out dough. Use largest house cookie cutter to cut manger wall (trim 1 in. from bottom). Using knife, cut a 5 in. x 3 in. base for manger. Cut star using largest Cut-Out. Score manger wall with paring knife before baking. Cut 3 gingerbread boys: Joseph, Mary (trim arms before baking) and baby (trim arms and legs before baking). Bake and cool all cookies.

Step 2

Place desired amount of coconut in plastic bag, add yellow icing color and knead bag until coconut is completely tinted; let dry on waxed paper.

Step 3

Use tip 4 to outline and fill in star; sprinkle with yellow sugar. Use tip 12 to outline eave of roof; immediately attach shredded wheat. Attach star to peak of roof with royal icing.

Step 4

For baby, pipe tip 12 head and tip 47 bands for blanket; outline tip 1 eyes and mouth. For Mary, pipe tip 12 head and tip 47 bands for dress; pipe tip 4 cloak, hood and arms. Pipe tip 2 feet, hands and hair; pipe tip 1 dot eyes and outline mouth. For Joseph, pipe tip 12 head, tip 4 clothing and tip 2 belt. Pipe tip 2 feet, hands and hair; pipe tip 1 dot eyes and outline mouth.
