Royal icing figures scale a rice cereal treat climbing wall set vertically within a candy-plaque frame. How cool is that?

Instructions:

Step 1

In advance, figure pipe 3-dimensional climber in orange shirt (to hang horizontally) on waxed paper using royal icing and tips 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 10, 11 and 12.

Step 2

Prepare a double batch of your favorite crisped rice cereal treat recipe, reserve 1 1/2 cups mixture. Mold in 11 x 15 in. pan. Press down firmly, then using the reserved mixture, shape "rocks" randomly over surface. Let set, remove from pan.

Step 3

Melt two pks. candy and make a candy plaque in 11 x 15 in. pan. When candy is partially set, but still soft on top, position molded cereal "wall" on the candy. Refrigerate to harden completely, at least 30 minutes. Remove from refrigerator and warm to room temperature. Unmold from pan and set aside on cake board.

Step 4

Melt two remaining pks. candy and make a candy plaque in 7 x 11 in. pan. Refrigerate until set and unmold. Using Easel Brace pattern, cut two braces from plaque using a sharp knife.

Step 5

Using royal icing, figure pipe climbers and holds on the wall. First, pipe tip 4 dot holds, paying attention to placement in relationship to arms and legs of climbers. Shape with finger dipped in cornstarch. Pipe climbers following instructions on, but without flipping figure over; you will pipe directly on wall.

Step 6

Attach braces to back of wall with melted candy. Hold in place until set. Attach plastic dowel rod to top of wall with melted candy. Using a sharp knife, make holes through the dowel rod and insert 4 cookie sticks, threading completely through dowel rod. Attach string licorice lengths to climbers using dots of royal icing, then tie other ends to sticks. Tie 3-dimensional climber onto stick in same fashion.
