Flashes of genius, these candles are actually buttercream-filled Jelly Roll pan cakes dipped into melted candy and decorated with candy clay shapes.

Instructions:

Step 1

In advance, prepare 1 recipe candy clay, let cool to room temperature, and divide into thirds. Leave 1/3 white and tint remaining thirds yellow and green. Wrap tightly and let set overnight.

Step 2

Bake cake and roll up lengthwise following recipe. When cool, unroll cake and spread with buttercream.

Step 3

Reroll cake, wrap in plastic wrap and freeze. Tint portions of melted candy red and yellow. Cut frozen jelly roll into 3 1/2 in. lengths.

Step 4

Dip cakes into candy, tap to remove excess, place upright on parchment-covered board to set. Roll out and cut candy clay to make flames, dots, swirls and ribbon trims.

Step 5

Cut 1 in. piece of licorice for wick; insert in flame. Roll 1/4 in. diameter candy clay ropes and wrap around base of upright cakes. Insert wick.
