Lady Liberty and Uncle Sam Brownies

Step 1

Bake and cool brownie pops in silicone mold supported by cookie sheet. Lightly ice brownie. Tint fondant as follows: For her: 3 oz. green, 1 1/2 oz. skin tone, 1 oz. brown, 1/2 oz. yellow. For him 1 1/2 oz. skin tone, 1 oz. each red and blue, 1/2 oz. black, reserve 3 oz. white.

Step 2

Decorate as follows: Roll out fondant as needed, 1/8 in. thick unless otherwise specified.

For her: Cover brownie with green fondant. For head, roll a 1 3/4 in. ball. Flatten bottom slightly; insert pretzel stick, leaving 1 in. exposed. Insert head into body. For raised arm, trim pretzel stick to 1 1/2 in. long. Insert, leaving 3/4 in. exposed. For sleeve, roll 1/2 in. fondant ball and wrap around pretzel. Cut a 1 x 1 1/2 in. rectangle for book. Roll a 1 1/2 x 3/8 in. log for 2nd arm. For hands, roll 1/2 in. fondant balls; flatten and cut slits for fingers. Attach all using damp brush. For torch, shape a 1/2 in. high cone handle, 1/2 in. wide disk top and 5/8 in. high flame (use knife to score fondant). Assemble and secure in hand. For hair, cut 3/16 in. wide strips, 1 to 1 1/2 in. long; attach. For crown, cut a 2 x 3/4 in. strip; use knife to cut points. Attach. Roll small ball nose; attach. Use FoodWriter to draw eyes and mouth.

Step 3

For him: Cover brownie with white fondant. For pants, cut a strip 1 x 7 in; attach using damp brush. For coat, cut a 1 1/4 x 6 in. strip; attach. Cut away front for V-neck and shaped bottom. Cut triangle lapels and bow tie; attach. For shoes, roll 1/2 in. diameter balls; shape and attach. For head, roll a 1 3/4 in. ball; flatten top for hat. Insert pretzel stick in bottom, leaving 1/2 in. exposed. Insert head into body. For hair, cut 2 circles, 1 in. diameter; attach. For hat brim, cut 1 3/4 in. diameter circle; attach. For hat top, roll a 1 in. ball; flatten ends and attach. Roll out red 1/16 in. thick. Cut 10 strips, 1/8 x 1 in. and attach for stripes. For hat band, cut 1/4 x 3 in. blue strip; attach. For arms, trim pretzel sticks to 1 1/2 in. long. Insert, leaving 3/4 in. exposed. For sleeves, roll 1/2 in. fondant balls and wrap around pretzel. For hands, roll 3/8 in. fondant balls; flatten and cut slits for fingers. Attach. Wrap 1 hand around flag pick. Roll tiny ball nose, swirled moustache and beard; attach. Use FoodWriter to draw eyes and mouth.
