Her Garden Glistens Cake


Step 1

In advance: Make fondant flowers and leaves. Combine 1 teaspoon Gum-Tex with 12 oz. fondant. Tint 8 oz. fondant green; roll out 1/8 in. thick. Cut 30 leaves with largest cutter, 20 with medium cutter. Place each leaf on thin shaping foam and score vein lines using small veining tool from set. Let dry on flower formers dusted with cornstarch. Tint 2 oz. light and 2 oz. dark violet; roll out 1/8 in. thick. Cut 3 flowers in each color with largest cutter, 3 in each color with medium cutter. Make foil cups by pushing 4 in. foil squares halfway down into 1 5/8 and 2 1/2 in. lily cups. Shape flower in cup; roll small white ball centers and attach with damp brush. Remove and let dry.

Step 2

Also: Grate chalk in tea strainer to make "dust" in 2 shades of green and 2 shades of yellow; brush onto leaves. Brush leaves and flowers with Pearl Dust.

Step 3

And: Cover base board. Tint 35 oz. fondant blue. Cover base board; smooth with Fondant Smoother. Spray with blue and violet Color Mist to vary shading.

Step 4

Ice sides and background areas of cake smooth. Outline details and pipe in features with tip 3. Pipe in eye and mouth (smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch). Pipe in lips, irises then pupils; smooth. Add dot eye highlights. Overpipe upper eyelids (pat slightly). Cover face and hair with tip 16 stars. Pipe tip 3 strings on ponytail. Pipe tip 2 pull-out eyelashes. Position cake on base board; pipe tip 5 bead bottom border. Pipe tip 5 vines on circle. Attach leaves and flowers with icing. Pipe tip 2 outline and dot sparkles.

*Combine Violet with Rose for dark violet. Combine Rose with Violet for light violet.
