Instructions:

Step 1

Make cake. Prepare batter following recipe directions. Bake and cool cake according to pan package directions. Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Tint small portions black and rose; reserve majority white. Use spatula and white icing to ice cake fluffy, leaving eyes, mouth and inside ears open.

Step 2

Decorate ears. Use fondant roller to roll out pink salt water taffy on parchment paper sprinkled with granulated sugar. Use scissors and pan as a guide to cut ovals for inside ears. Position taffy on cake.

Step 3

Decorate facial features. Use tip 4 and black icing to pipe in eyes and mouth. Use tip 4 and rose icing to pipe in tongue. Use tip 1A and white icing to pipe ball cheeks. Use spatula to flatten and create fluffy texture.

Step 4

Add candy trims. Use scissors to cut black shoestring licorice in six pieces, about 1 in. to 2 in. long. Position on cake for whiskers. Position pink jelly bean for nose.
