Give the birthday person star billing on a cake just for them. Our Star Pan gives this special cake its shape.

Step 1

Bake and cool cake completely. Position on a foil-wrapped cake board cut to pan shape.

Step 2

Prepare icing and tint 1/4 cup orange, 1/4 cup green, 1/4 cup violet, 1/4 cup yellow, 1/4 cup brown, 1/4 cup blue, 1/4 cup black, 1/4 cup copper and 3/4 cup red; reserve 2 1/4 cups white (thin with 1 1/2 teaspoons light corn syrup). Ice cake smooth with thinned white icing and spatula.

Step 3

Using toothpick, mark face areas, 4 3/4 in. deep from each star point. Mark party hat areas, 4 1/4 in. wide at base. Using wide end of tip 16, mark polka dot areas on party hats.

Step 4

Use tip 18 and violet, orange, blue, yellow or green icing to fill in polka dot areas on party hats with stars.

Step 5

Use tip 18 and green, yellow, blue, violet or orange icing to fill in party hats with stars.

Step 6

Use tip 16 and brown or copper icing to fill in faces with stars.

Step 7

Use tip 3 and black icing to pipe dot eyes and outline smiles on all faces.

Step 8

Use tip 4 and violet, orange, blue, yellow or green icing to pipe pull-out pom-pom and brim on party hats.

Step 9

Use tip 6 and red icing to print name.

Step 10

Use tip 21 and red icing to pipe shell bottom border.
