Bevy of Berries Cake

Strawberry Shortcake, updated and cuter than ever, brings a Bevy of Berries to the party. This cake-on-cake design suits more guests and adds an interesting dimension to the presentation.

Instructions:

Step 1

In advance: Using royal icing, make approximately 30 tip 129 white drop flowers with tip 3 yellow dot centers. Let dry.

Step 2

Position Strawberry Shortcake cake on same-size cake board and decorate as follows in buttercream: Ice cake sides, shirt, and background areas smooth.

Step 3

Using tip 3, outline face and facial features, hands, neck, shirt, hat, and bow. Pipe in tip 3 bow (smooth with finger dipped incornstarch). Pipe tip 3 lines on bow and shirt. Pipe in tip 3 collar.

Step 4

Cover face, neck, hands, hat and strawberry on bow with tip 16 stars. Add tip 3 dots on strawberry and add tip 67 pull-out leaves. Using tip 3, pipe dot nose and line under nose.

Step 5

Pipe tip 16 pull-out star hair.

Step 6

Ice smooth 2-layer (3 in. high) heart cake and prepare for stacked construction. Using 2 1/2 in. diameter heart cutter, imprint hearts randomly on cake top and sides. Outline with tip 3, fill in with tip 16 stars. Add tip 3 dot seeds. Pipe tip 67 leaves.

Step 7

Position Strawberry Shortcake cake on heart cake. Add tip 16 shell bottom border. Attach drop flowers with dots of icing.
