In advance, enlarge straight tree cookie cutter to twice the original size. Tint gumpaste green. Roll out to 1/16 in. thickness. Cut 4 to 5 regular size trees and 1 to 2 enlarged trees. Let dry on cornstarch-covered board
When dry, decorate trees. Paint regular-sized trees with a pearl dust vanilla mixture in 1/4 in. stripes. Paint larger trees with dots. Let dry.
Prepare base. Tint 24 oz. of fondant black. Roll out and cover prepared 10 in. cake base. Let set overnight. Attach sticks to back with gum paste adhesive, allowing only 3 1/2 in. of each stick to show. Let dry.
Bake 2-layer cakes. Prepare for stacked construction and to be covered with fondant. Cover with fondant. Thing 1/4 cup of fondant with water. Brush mixtures on cakes one at a time and cover with sugars. Stack and position on fondant-covered board. Let dry.
