Additional Information

Step 1

Hold bag at a 90° angle with the tip almost touching surface. Steadily squeeze out a dot of icing, lifting the bag slightly and keeping tip in icing as it builds up into a small mound.

Step 2

To end, stop pressure and pull tip away.

Step 3

For balls: Follow dot instructions, building the mound larger.

To smooth icing: After piping, pat smooth using finger dipped in cornstarch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I used this technique for a birthday cake. I like the simplicity. The directions here are clear. If I had more practice, applying these in a pattern on the side of a cake would have been a breeze. But I wish I had the tilting cake Turner.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I really love the versatility of the dots but I do find that frequently I don't get smooth dots I kind of have to flatten the top a little once it starts to crust. Even when I remove pressure from the bag before I lift I still get a tip on it. Might be a consistency problem though.
