1 day in advance: Make cookies. Prepare and roll out dough. Cut cookies
using cutters from set, including desired letters, nine balls using medium
round, and three footballs. Bake and cool cookies.
Decorate with Color
Flow. Use tip 2 and full-strength icing to outline letters; let dry. Place
ball cookies on cooling grid over cookie sheet; cover with thinned icing. Let dry. Flow in letter cookies with thinned icing; let dry.
Add details with full-strength icing. Use tip 4 to pipe stripes on footballs;
pat smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch. Use tip 2 to pipe stitching on
footballs, baseballs, and basketballs and section lines on soccer ball. Pipe
in black sections of soccer ball with thinned icing. Let dry.
Ice cake smooth in buttercream. Use edge
cutter to cut two rectangles from light blue edible paper, 7 1/2 in. x 9 in.
Position 1 in. from cake edge. Pipe tip 21 shell bottom border. Position ball
and letter cookies.
