Haunted Halloween House Cake is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Review from a beginner point of view: I tried this Halloween cake idea this weekend. This is not too complicated but it is time consuming. If you see it, is a pretty small cake, it only yields 12 portions (according to Wilton), and it will take just as much time as a bigger cake. I had hard time with the roof of the house because I thought it was better to cut it and cover in fondant separate from the rest of the house. BAD IDEA, period!. Since the instructions don't have the pattern cited, you kinda have to play by hear with the dimensions of the porch, windows, door and chimney. The result will be totally different from the picture, which is fine, if you are just getting the picture as inspiration and aim for your own design. What would I do different next time? For any house design, leave the roof on! It is too skinny to cut it and cover it without breaking apart (even if you refrigerate or freeze the cake). Next, take all measurements directly from the cake and transfer them to paper, make a paper draft of the design you want with the exact measurements and from that design, make your patterns. And yes, it takes 3 days to get all the little pieces dry and ready to apply. Lay the fondant pieces uncovered in a completely flat surface with parchment paper so that the side that is touching the surface dries too. This pieces are very thin and deform easily.
