Cover your cake board in Fanci-Foil.
Bake cake. Prepare white cake batter according to recipe, divide into 4 portions. Tint batter according to formulas listed. Following the directions on the Checkerboard Cake Pan packaging, bake and cool cake.
Assemble cake. Prepare buttercream icing following recipe directions. Position first layer on cake board. Use spatula and icing to ice top smooth. Position second layer on top of first. Use spatula and icing to ice top smooth. Position final layer. Use spatula and icing to ice entire cake smooth.
Tint Icing. Tint buttercream icing according to formulas listed, ½ cup per color.
