Shimmering candy hearts are literally popping out of this cake! A wonderful dessert for Valentine's Day or a wedding shower, this Gift of Love Valentine's Day Cake is built upon a gift made of cake layers and features four large candy heart balloons popping out of the open gift. A sweet proposal cake, this Valentine dessert could easily be customized so each balloon says one of these four words: Will you marry me? How sweet would that be? Use the Deep Heart Truffle Candy Mold and the Hearts Candy Mold to create your candy hearts using Candy Melts candy, and have fun showing your sweetie how much they mean to you with this lovely Gift of Love Valentine's Day Cake.

Step 1

1 DAY IN ADVANCE

Make candy heart pops. Melt red Candy Melts candy according to package directions. Use hearts candy mold and melted red candy to make three small hearts for each treat. Tap to settle. Chill until firm, 10 to 15 minutes. Trim three 6 in. lollipop sticks to 4 in., 3 1/2 in. and 3 in. long. Use melted candy to attach sticks to back of hearts. Chill until firm, 3 to 5 minutes.

Use melted red candy and deep heart truffles candy mold to make one large heart for each treat. Tap to settle. Chill until firm, 10 to 15 minutes. Use melted candy to attach 6 in. lollipop stick to back. Chill until firm, 3 to 5 minutes.

Step 2

Make candy box flaps. Place largest Cut- Out from squares Cut-Outs fondant cutter set on non-stick cookie pan. Fill to 1/8 in. deep with melted candy. Tap to settle. Chill until firm, 10 to 15 minutes. Make two squares for each box. Use warm knife to cut each square in half. Reserve remaining melted candy.

Step 3

Make 9 in. x 13 in. sheet cake. Prepare firm-textured cake batter, such as pound cake. Bake and cool cake following recipe directions. Use knife to level cake to 2 in. high. Use knife and largest square Cut-Out fondant cutter as a guide to cut sheet cake into squares, 2 1/4 in. x 2 1/4 in.

Step 4

Cover cakes. Use spatula and reserved melted red candy to ice bottom of cakes. Chill until firm, 5 to 10 minutes. Place cake squares, candy side down, on cooling grid over cookie sheet. Cover with melted red candy. Tap to settle. Chill until firm, 10 to 15 minutes.

Step 5

Make candy ribbons. Melt white Candy Melts candy according to package directions. Combine 1/2 oz. melted red candy with 12 oz. (one package) melted white candy to make pink. Use largest square Cut-Out fondant cutter and non-stick cookie pan as for candy box flaps to make squares, 1/16 in. deep (1 1/2 squares needed for each treat). Reserve excess pink candy for candy curls.

Use warm knife to cut each square into four ribbons, 1/2 in. wide. Use melted candy to attach ribbons to cake sides. Trim to fit as needed. Cut two ribbons in half. Attach to box flaps.

Step 6

Make candy curls. Mix 6 oz. reserved melted pink candy with 2 teaspoons of shortening. Pour candy 3/4 in. deep into mini loaf pan cavity. Chill until firm, 30 minutes. Bring to room temperature. Use vegetable peeler to make candy curls.

Step 7

DAY OF CELEBRATION

Assemble treats.Use melted red candy to attach box flaps to box at a 45° angle. Hold in position 3 to 5 minutes. Use hot knife to poke small holes through box top. Insert candy heart pops. Position curls inside candy box.
