Step 1

Tint fondant Pastel Yellow using Lemon Yellow with a little Golden Yellow. In advance: Make stars on wires. Roll out primary fondant 1/8 in. thick and cut 18 stars in each color using medium Cut-Out.

Step 2

Place on cornstarch-dusted surface. Brush tops with water and sprinkle with matching color Cake Sparkles. Let dry. Bend a hook at end of each wire.

Step 3

Make a teardrop-shaped base for each star, using a 1/4 in. ball of matching color fondant. Insert hooked wire into narrow end of teardrop, shape to wire and let dry in craft block.

Step 4

Attach star to base with melted candy. Let set.

Step 5

Prepare 1-layer 14 in. cake and 2-layer 6 in. cake (bake two 2 1/2 in. layers to create a 5 in. high cake) for stacked construction. Assemble cakes on a triple-thick cake board or foamcore base, wrapped in foil. Ice cakes smooth. Divide 6 in. cake into 10ths and 14 in. cake into 6ths.

Step 6

For 6 in. cake, roll out pastel yellow fondant 1/8 in. thick. Using straight-edge cutting wheels and striped embossing wheel from Ribbon Cutter/Embosser, cut 10 strips.

Step 7

Trim to 5 in. long and attach with buttercream at division points. For 14 in. cake, cut dowel rods into six 2 in. lengths; insert at division points, 1 1/2 in. from edge of cake.

Step 8

Pipe tip 8 bead bottom borders on both cakes. Roll 3/8 in. pastel yellow balls and attach with buttercream for top borders. Roll out primary blue, green and red fondant 1/8 in. thick.

Step 9

Cut message using alphabet Cut-Outs; attach with icing. Make 6 groups of wired stars, using 3 stars in each color; twist together at bottom.

Step 10

Insert fondant in dowel rod to stabilize wires. Insert star groups in dowel rods. Roll a 1 1/2 in. log of pastel yellow and wrap around wires at dowel rod opening.

Step 11

For topper base, roll out fondant 1/2 in. thick and cut a circle with cookie cutter. Position base and topper.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This was an easy cake to do. Be sure to make the stars several days in advance. I had a little trouble with the tips of the stars breaking off. If you had a bead former it would save quite a bit of time. Make sure you load the straws with fondant to hold the stars upright in the cake. I transported the cake with the stars inserted and had some difficulty with them leaning over in the cake. So I would recommend inserting them on location. It was easy overall.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The most difficult part of the cake was locating the bobble head. The stars are best transported flat or stuck in styrofoam and inserted into the cake at location. I added school logo emblem below bobble head for more personalization.
