Step 1

3 days in advance: Prepare base board. Tint fondant: 36 oz. green, 30 oz. blue, 4 oz. each rose, yellow, orange. Reserve 2 oz. white. Tape together three 13 in. x 19 in. cake boards. Wrap with foil. Roll out green and blue fondant 1/8 in. thick. Cover top 14 in. of board with blue fondant. Cover bottom portion of board with green fondant, overlapping blue portion. Use knife to cut a wavy horizontal line, 6 1/2 in. from bottom, through overlapping fondant. Remove excess and smooth seam. Reserve excess green fondant.

Step 2

Also: Make fondant flowers and trims.

Add 1 teaspoon Gum-Tex to reserved green fondant. Roll out 1/8 in. thick. Cut six strips, 1 3/4 in. x 13 in. Use border punch with grass insert to cut grass design on one long edge of each strip. Reserve scraps from punch. Let dry on cornstarch-dusted boards. Roll out reserved green fondant 1/2 in. thick. Use knife to cut 1 1/2 in. wide grass supports: cut six each 2 7/8 in., 2 3/4 in., 2 1/4 in. and 2 in. high; cut four each 1 3/4 in., 1 1/2 in., 1 1/4 in., 3/4 in., 1/2 in. and 1/3 in. high. For fantasy flowers, tint fondant: 4 oz. each rose, yellow, orange. Knead 1/4 teaspoon Gum-Tex into each. Roll out colors 1/8 in. thick. Use punch with layered flower inserts to cut nine large, 23 medium and 23 small flowers in various colors. Place large flowers in 3 in. forming cup, medium flowers in 2 1/2 in. cup and small flowers in melting plate cavities. Attach flowers in two or three layers with piping gel, combining colors for each; let dry. For clouds, roll out white fondant 3/8 in. thick. Cut three freeform clouds, 2 1/2 in. x 4 in., 2 in. x 3 in. and 1 1/2 in. x 2 in. Let dry on cornstarch-dusted board.

Step 3

Bake and cool cake; trim off bow and trim down ruffles. Ice sides and background areas smooth in blue. Use tip 3 to outline and pipe in mouth; pat smooth with finger dipped in cornstarch. Pipe tip 5 bead tongue; pat smooth. Use tip 3 to outline girl and clothes. Fill in areas with tip 16 stars. Overpipe nose and cheeks with tip 16 stars. Pipe tip 3 dots on dress. Pipe tip 18 pull-out hair and pigtails. Pipe tip 5 outline hair bands.

Step 4

Position cake on board, 2 in. from bottom. Pipe tip 5 bead bottom border. Pipe tip 5 name. Attach supports to grass strips with thinned fondant adhesive. Position grass, beginning at girl?s legs with sections on 1/4 in. supports and reserved scraps from punch. Continue layering grass sections at graduated heights to bottom of board. Attach flowers and clouds with thinned fondant adhesive.
