Step 1

Before starting, please read a helpful hint from the Wilton decorator who made this cake.

In advance: Make flowers in royal icing.

Pipe seven wild flowers using tip 103 in peach and rose royal icing. Pipe pull-out dot centers using tip 1 and yellow royal icing.

Pipe 38 apple blossoms using tip 101 in peach and rose royal icing. Pipe dot centers using tip 1 and yellow royal icing.

Pipe 24 drop flowers using tip 16 tip and yellow royal icing on parchment paper covered board. Pipe dot centers using tip 1 and white royal icing.

Place wild roses and apple blossoms in flower former set; allow all flowers to dry 24 hours.

Step 2

Bake 2-layer 8 in. x 4 in. high square cakes. Cool. Position on foil-wrapped cake board.

Step 3

Ice cake smooth with white buttercream icing.

Step 4

Pipe bands on top and bottom edges of cake sides using tip 45 and violet icing.

Step 5

Attach apple blossoms and drop flowers to cake sides with dots of icing. Reserve 11 apple blossoms for cake top.

Step 6

Pipe vines on cake sides using tip 2 and green icing. Pipe leaves using tip 349 and 352 and green buttercream icing.

Step 7

Pipe bands on top of cake 1 1/2 in. in from edges of cake using tip 45 and violet icing.

Step 8

Pipe a mound of white icing in center of cake using tip 12. Arrange wild roses and remaining apple blossoms on the mound. Pipe leaves using tip 352 and green icing.

Drop flowers are a great way to add flowers quickly. Pipe drop flowers in buttercream directly on your cake, or pipe in royal in advance and place your flowers anywhere. Flowers will be sharper in definition when piped in royal.

Curving vines gently rise and fall to add a beautiful touch to your floral cake. They work wonders as a cake side accent.

The wild rose is a pretty year-round flower piped about the size of the head of Flower Nail 7. For a more cupped shape, increase the angle you hold the tip.

Pipe dots for flower centers, faces, figure piping and border effects. When making large dots, lift the tip as you squeeze to allow icing to fill out completely.

This 5-petal springtime flower, most commonly seen in white or soft pink, is virtually the same petal shape as the wild rose, but uses a smaller tip creating a petite flower. The dot stamen are typically positioned like the holes in a 5-hole button. Dry them on flower formers for a more natural look.
