The title says it all....I have to decorate a cake in 2 days and I was wondering how long it will take for my gum paste figures to dry. They are just thin pieces that are to be reeds for a duck hunting cake and I need them to be stiff enough to stand up straight. I cut them out to start drying last night.

They should be ok. Did you put wires in them for extra support?

And do I put the wires in them now while they are drying?

If you're going to do it, you have to do it before they dry or they won't go in. The wires cannot go into the cake without protection so before you stick them down into the cake either cover them in plastic wrap or dip them in chocolate or insert them into a straw that you have placed in the cake. Florist wire is fine.
