Once a batch of Royal Icing has been made, how long can it be stored?

I've searched the forums and found that some of you DO store it in an air tight container with a damp paper towel; but there is no mention as to HOW LONG it can be stored like that.

Thanks for any advice

"Store in an airtight container for up to two weeks. To reuse, beat on low to restore it to its original texture." This came out of my book I received when I took the Wilton classes. Hope it helps.
