Here is a picture from cake central. Does anyone know how they get the sugar crystals to stick to the fondant so well and so evenly?!

Did you try to PM her that question? I read recently in their forums that the decorator seems to answer the questions being asked by PM more so than they do publicly. ???

Are you sure it's fondant? Just wondering if it was buttercream iced smoothly and then sugar applied while it was still sticky. Or can you mist fondant with water and then apply the crystals immediately?

I read somewhere (here?) that a gadget was improvised to funnel sugar onto a cake from a little bit of a height and then the extra sugar that didn't stick was caught in a pan below. Something like that! LOL!

What about applying a thin layer of piping gel and the putting the sugar on before the gel sets?

I think this is a buttercream cake. In the description it doesn't say fondant.
