Topic: Purple Icing - Please Help!!!

I need to make a cake with purple icing. I have violet, but it is way too light. I tried to add a little black, but it didnt seem to work...I also added a little Christmas red, to make a more plum color...still didnt work. I need a darker purlpe.
If anyone knows how to accomplish this, please let me know. I need to do this cake tonight.

Colors deepen in buttercream icings upon setting; color icing 1-2 hours before decorating.

Are you making new icing or working with your plum color? If you are salvaging what you have then add more blue.

Violet or purple are equal amounts of blue and red. I like to use sky blue and no taste red or just a pot of violet food coloring. If you need it dark, you simply need more of it.

Also, use milk and not water in the icing. This will help it from fading. Good luck!

THank you for your advice. What I did was use the blue and red, then I added violet to that and it turned out great.
