I'm baking a cake using just a box cake mix. How much batter should I use for a 12x2 inch round pan? Do I use 1 box of cake mix per pan? Less?

Wilton says you should used 7 1/2 cups per layer for a 12" pan.

A cake mix will yield 4-6 cups, depending on the brand and type of mix....so you will have to do some math. Baking is the best science/ math class there is!!

More than one mix, less than two. As the other members have pointed out, you need to use the amount of batter that pan is intended for, which you can look up on the charts. That rarely comes to to be exactly whole numbers of mixes.

Make cupcakes with the excess batter!

For a 12" cake, I always make two boxes and there might be a little left over for a round pan......square would take the full amount of batter.
