I am looking for the Wilton's original white icing. All it called for was crisco, powdered sugar and water but do not know the amounts. My grandma took a decorating class many years ago and that is the only icing we ever used. It is my favorite and I am getting to start doing cakes and want that recipe, not the buttercream recipe. Help please. Email dnadykes1993@aol.com

Hi. I'm attending a class starting this week. Here is the icing recipe we were given by the instructor:

1 lb. of Powdered Sugar
1 cup Crisco Shortening (not oil)
1/4 tsp. vanilla or lemon flavoring
1/4 cup water
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cream or tartar (optional)

The original recipe I was given over 28 years ago in my Wilton class was:
* 1 t. Wilton Clear Vanilla Extract
* 2 T. milk or water
* 1 C. Shortening
* 1 lb. powdered sugar
* dash of popcorn salt, and other flavors can be added, such as almond.

Is this what you remember?

Yes, this is the recipe from class, but they now add the meringue powder. I also, used Snow White Buttercream. Is that the recipe you're looking for?

I figured it out! Thanks to everyone for your response. The recipe is a small can of crisco, 2lbs powdered sugar and you add milk a little at a time to get the right consistency. Probably about a 1/4 cup or less. If you have not tried this you should and let me know what you think.
