I purchased a Wilton Icing Writer to use on a birthday cake. However, I would like to test it out before using it on the actual cake. How long can I save it in the refrigerator before it goes bad?

Welcome to the forum. I am not a big fan of the icing writer for writing. I find it difficult to squeeze with any control. Others have found it to be runny but for me the icing is too stiff to be much use. How I have had some success with the two that I have is to squeeze out a small mound and thin it with a couple drops of water. Then I can use it for painting on fondant. For whatever it's worth, I didn't have a problem keeping it for quite a while. You should be able to (and I suggest you do) practice with it prior to its use. After your practice session you might opt for something else.
