This is my first crack at a tiered cake. I got the idea for this disco theme from one of the other discussion forum's under the wedding section. (Thank you!!) I made this for practice for a friend's New Year's party. The "disco ball" in the center of the cake is a candle holder that I had at home and wanted to put it to good use!!! The cake is the buttercake, strawberry filling and buttercream recipe from Wilton's site. Although I had some problems with the sides of the cake crumbling when I removed them from the pans but after icing it, one couldn't even tell. The cake tasted really good and was quite moist!!! Thanks to all who post pictures....I love all the ideas! Happy New Year!

What did you use on the sides of the cakes? Silver pearls?

The sides of the cake are those edible silver balls or dragees I think they are called. I put them on with clear piping gel and tweezers. It took me about 7 hours just to apply the balls!!!

Hi, I had seen a cake very simular done by Semi-Homemade (foodnetwork). It looks wonderful. Where did you find the silver edible balls? I can only find them on line. The place I use to find them said they were told they no longer could sell them due to the metal in the silver.

Thanks for all your comments! I found the edible balls at a wedding and party boutique here and also at my local Safeway. For the color, it was supposed to look like "champagne" so I used the ivory Wilton food coloring and just added about 1/4 tsp to the icing.

Hi! Great cake!! I have a question or two. What is under the candle in the center of the cake? Do you have it on a base? Then What do you have on top of the candle? Did you glue a base on top for the top cake? Where do you find candles holders like that? What sizes where your cakes? My daughter liked this cake and now wants one for her birthday. HELP!! Thanks, Kris

Outstanding! The cakes themselves are very elegant and beautiful. The disco balls just set them off beautifully for the WOW factor. Fantastic job. Thanks for sharing. ^_^

I don't know if this person is on here anymore since the post is three years old. I don't remember seeing anything from her since I've been here.
