I need to make a cake for an 80th b-day party. The gentleman is from Italy so I wanted to use the shape of Italy (including Sicily), but I need it to feed about 75 people. Any suggestions? My biggest pan is 12x18. Thanks

Cut the "boot" and Sicily out of a sheet cake and put it on top of a larger sheet cake. That will up your servings. If you use a 2 layer base cake you'll get more servings.

Cakedujour- Would you put a cake board under the top cakes?

I would. Especially if the top cake is two layered. I would use sturdy straws for support too. The top cake might be heavy and it will be a whole lot easier to serve if you make it two separate cakes, as a tiered cake would be.
