I have a request to make a wedding cake. She wants 4 separate cakes on different height padestals with snowflakes on the cakes. How do I make the snowflakes? Is using fondant the only way? If so, I'm new to fondant. Do I find a mold for snowflakes to make them? Has anyone done this or have any ideas?
Thanks

i may be wrong but their is probably a mix that you can make with sugar, to make your snowflake. You could also make them out of color flow.

I just recently saw a really pretty picture of a snowflake cake. They actually piped royal icing to make them. I guess you just need to have a pattern of a snowflake and put it under some waxed paper and just trace it with your royal icing. Then they just put some glitter on them. It was beautiful.

hi...

i made a very nice snow flakes cake in january... what i did was i drew a nice size of snow flakes in a board and then put a wax paper on top and line /draw it with royal icing. before it dried out i sprinkle it with white sparkling edible sparkles... and the effect was awesome... the bride wanted to have her topper also a 6 diameter snow flake but since snow flakes made out of royal icing was very fragile,,, i went to the dollar store and buy that size of christmas decor snowflakes outlined it with royal icing and sprinkle with sparkles and viola!!!! it turned out very nice.... hope this will help you.... then the broken snowflakes i just distributed it any space i like like the real snow....

maybe do a off white fondant take some more fondant and make a thick bow to wrap around each cake, maybe some glitzy sugary effect, you can temper some white chocolate and use cookie cutters to cut out different sized shaps, then lay the really small ones on the cake and some of the bigger ones actually stand up at an angle in the cake

this cake sounds like it could be so super fun i wish i was doing it, maybe i'll do a mock one just because you've inspired me XD

by the way, you should make the ribbon of the bows almost as thick as the cake layer, leaving about a half inch on top and bottom of the ribbon, and make it the centerpeice of each cake, maybe put most of the glitzy white sugar on it

You need to check out the cake under "what a great forum" on this page by aquarian42. She posted a beautiful snowflake cake. I bet she would be glad to share how she make the snowflakes. Good luck.

I filed this cake last winter from this forum. I'm not sure who made it, but I thing it's great! The snowflakes look like royal to me.

I have made the snowflakes out of royal icing, sprinkled with edible glitter. If you send your email address I will send a picture. This cake had blue snowflakes.

I did a snowflake cake for the Tulsa Show and used royal icing. I have a few cakes on my website in the Cake Competition Gallery and Just cakes gallery. I used royal icing on Silpat mats and traced the design. I then took regular granular sugar and coated them. They sorta have that flocked look! Let me know if you have any questions.

Here's a pic of a wonderful snowflake cake that I found on cakecentral.com. You can really see the details of the flakes. The baker made them with royal icing and dusted them with sparkles before they dried. Great affect! Good luck!

Hello, I have done a cake with snowflakes on it. It was for a Christmas party. What I did was I went online and got pictures of snowflakes, little and big ones, photocopied them at work. Then I made them out of white Chocolate. If you use blue tacky and tacky the photocopies of the snowflakes to a cookie sheet, and then trace the out line of the snowflakes with the chocolate. Freeze the chocolate, and store in an air tight container, you can make these ahead of time. Then assemble the cake.

If you want, use a white base for the cakes, and you can color the icing, I put a small (very small) amount of light blue coloring in the chocolate, to make them stick out against the white. Or you can do a light blue (very light) for the base of the cake, and then make white chocolate snowflakes.

This is really good, because everyone likes chocolate.
