I am looking for ideas for a very simple & informal wedding cake decorated with cream cheese icing. Both bride and groom have been married previously and are having a barbeque picnic for a reception. Everyone coming to the wedding is to be dressed very casual. They want people to wear shorts. They made sure not to have a "fancy" cake.

Why not do a cupcake wedding cake using banana or carrot cupcakes with a cream cheese icing. I would just do a simple but beautiful swirl of cream cheese icing on each one using a tip 22 or so. The liners can be done in their color, gold, pink, yellow, whatever. And the cupcake stand can also simply be done with a few ribbons or lace of their color and choosing. Cupcake wedding cakes are getting so popular now adays and can be simple or very detailed and fabulous! You can check out some sites to see for yourself.

HI,
Have you thought of a picnic basket?
Perhap's you can make a basket handle of wire and wrap it with ribbon in the color the bride is using then add a few silk flowers on either side of the handle and a bow. Piped food supplies on the top of the cake might be cute as well or something like that. I'll be curious to know if you decide to do this and how it turned out. Can you email me just in case you do? I'd love to see a picture of it!

I saw a simple wedding cake that is really easy and not too time consuming. It was a 3 tiered cake (not sure how many people it was intended for) and each tier just had the shell border on the bottom and very small pearls around the side of the cake. I didn't see it when it went to the wedding, but I'm sure it had some sort of topper on it. Hope that helps.....

Here is my wedding cake that I made (see picture attached). It was frosted in buttercream with buttercream dots for a border then flowers and petals put on. Best of Luck.

Smiles,

Hi!
Last spring, my mother's best friend got married. She didn't want a traditional wedding cake and asked me to do something special. That's what I did...(It was my first wedding cake.) There was sugared fruits on it and everybody loved it. It was simple, not too traditional, but classy enough for a small wedding.
Hope it helps.
Meg

When you say picnic, I think of a picnic basket. I liked the pic and idea of a basketweave pattern and it really is simple to do. If you don't do sugared fruits like the picture, use canned cherries. You could also do a simple white sheet cake and decorate with daisies.

or....go really crazy and do a luau cake.

Good luck.

Hi. I made a cake for a couple this summer who were married in Maui and wanted a simple celebration after returning home so they had a casual pitch in with all their family and friends. The cake was a double layered sheet cake made from the Hawaiian wedding cake recipe I often use. (Pineapple, nuts and cream cheese icing. This cake is really moist and very good.) I used a fork up and down the sides to give the icing a kind of gathered look and put a simple border around the base and top edges. I made a 6" round tier and set it on top in of the sheet cake. On top of that they placed a pretty fresh flower arrangement that kind of flowed down. It was simple but very beautiful. Good Luck.
