A very simple design for a local bride...easiest delivery of my life...only 2 miles from my house! it's smooth buttercream (6"-9"-12") with small sugar pearls on the top edges and fondant buttons rolled in super pearl dust placed down the front/center. The flowers on top were fresh...and boy was I worried about them! My go-to florist didn't have any ivory roses, so I purchased these at a local grocer and they were SO small. So, I placed them in luke-warm water with the food packet that came with them and they opened beautifully by morning!

Wow! Your simplest cakes are so beautiful! What are your roses in on the top of the cake?

This cake is elegant in its simplicity. But, as we all know, the simplest cakes can be the hardest cakes because there is no room for error. The icing is perfectly smooth and there is not a tail on a dot to be found anywhere. Beautiful cake!

Thanks everyone!

gmoakes...glad you asked about the topper. I cut a 3" round piece of craft foam and using another piece of foam I sanded the top edges to look a little more round. Then I attached it to a 5" round piece of parchment paper with tape so it wouldn't touch the cake. Using a dowel, I simply poked a hole, inserted a rose...poked another hole and inserted another until it was full of roses! I started at the bottom of the foam and then filled in the top. Hope that makes sense...oh, and since roses typically need a water source, I made the topper right before I delivered it.

cakedujour...yes, I also think the simplest cakes are the most difficult! Thanks!

I love this design. So simple and special. Beautiful! I hope I can one day get my top edge as crisp. So good.

Amen to the praise above! It reminds me of dressmaker detailing, and the back of a wedding dress with buttons down it. And the roses turned out perfectly. Subtle elegance, and a vision.
