Topic: Different wedding celebration cake
gmoakes01 10/06/2012 11:29 AM
This is a different wedding celebration cake. For several different reasons, the couple actually got married earlier this year but this was the weekend they choose to celebrate with friends and family. This is the bride's 3rd marriage so she didn't want a typical white wedding cake, just something fun and "fallish" to celebrate. It was originally going to be a bigger cake but they ended up with a smaller gathering. The cake is 3 layers (the first two shrunk down too thin so I decided to bake a third layer last night) of pumpkin spice cake with an amaretto icing. It's still only a little over 5" tall. The pumpkin on top is RKT covered in fondant. The pine cones and mushrooms are modeling chocolate. Would have liked to have tried the birch bark design but we don't have birch trees in Texas and I had already made the pine cones. The original celebration was supposed to be Sunday afternoon, thankfully i texted her Friday night to see when they were picking it up and her reply was "oh, we're doing it Saturday, remember?" Must have missed that detail in her rambling message to downsize the cake several weeks ago. Got it done, though.
TFL, Gisele

Very nice cake, sounds like you were pretty busy baking. I don't like it when you need to bake an extra cake when I think its all done.

Awesome tree, Gisele! You did a super job! I'm glad to see your pine cone class at FF came in handy here. They look terrific!

The unexpected for a wedding cake is always fun to do. Your cake is wonderful.

Kathy, the pine cones didn't turn out as well as the ones at FF. I was trying to use some of the leftover modeling chocolate but I think it was too old - it was kind of crumbly and they were very fragile.
Thanks for all the kind comments.
