Well, I managed to get the wedding cakes and the groom's cake done for this weekend's wedding. I learned a lot and am not completely thrilled with the results, but the bride seemed to be happy. They were my gift to the couple.
The groom's General Lee/Dukes of Hazzard cake is chocolate pound cake done in buttercream. The "accents" (rebel flag, headlights, bumpers, windows, decals, etc) were done in painted MM fondant. The wedding cake is white cake with buttercream filling (the middle cake has a raspberry buttercream filling) and MM fondant. I used fake flowers b/c the reception hall wasn't air conditioned and I was afraid of the fondant flowers breaking/melting. On the bottom cake, the dot you see is a small red heart. Around the cake are also painted hearts and the words "love, trust, honor, cherish" in separate places. The middle cake has the couple's monogram done in luster dust.
Setup was simple. Gold painted PVC pillars (thanks to my hubby!) for the top two cakes. Extra flowers and rose leaves around the edges.
