Did anyone else take the first class for the GP and Fondant course tonight? If so, what did you think of it?

Wrapping those wires is pretty tedious, but totally worth the time!

I also found wrapping the stems with tape alittle frustrating. I have "nails" so it was alittle harder to work with them. Overall, I really like the class.

Everyone in my class thought the same thing. Wrapping the stemen to the wire is frustrating. I never even got one done. My nails got in the way also. But this morning I sat and did them. What I also did was make the blossom and put a white sugar pearl in the middle. Those I'll save for my valentines cake. So much easier. I also didn't like the orange Gerbera daisy so I made them at home also in Purple. But the class itself was really a lot of fun. I enjoyed it. There definitely is homework to be done.

I also didn't really favor the orange Gerbera daisy. I made mine in blue and thought that came out well.

Wrapping the stamens is definitely something to practice to home. If anyone picks up some good techniques to wrap them, feel free to share!

I went on YouTube this morning and found a good video on wrapping the wire. We had a good group so it made it fun! I am going to do the same as Fribwl, practice at home!

Oh did you? I'll have to look up some videos on YouTube relating to that too. It's always nice to have a good group of people doing the course along with you

shopgal247: Can you post a link to the youtube video you found? I have found a few, but I don't find them very good or useful.

Thanks!

Not very good at copy and paste from my IPad but you can type in the search box ColdinWpgWMI on YouTube. Let me know if it doesn't work

Thanks shopgal247. I found the video and it is a very good tutorial. Much better than the others I was able to find. Here is the link in case anyone else wants to see it:

Anyone willing to post close up pics of their gerbera daisy? I'd like to see how Wilton recommends making them compared to what I found online. My Hobby Lobby won't be offering this class until April. :(

Hi Spooky789- I would send you my picture but it wasn't dry all the way and sort of got bent
But it's the same as making the daisy except you need to use the 4inch formers and the center is made on the impression mat. You need roll out your gumpaste pretty thin, about 1/16. Is this what you needed?

Thanks, Steffi! I made some gerbera daisies for the cake shown in my avatar pic. I followed a tutorial I found on Cake Central. For the center petals, I used the tiniest of the three Wilton daisy cutters, cut out a bunch of those, then cut each petal in two, then cut each flower in half. Attached those around the center in two rows, then added the center of the flower.

I'll be right back with the link to my purse so you can see the daisies I made close up.

I actually took first place in the artistic category with this cake. I guess I forgot to go back and post the results. Thanks for the reminder!

spooky_789 ,
your purse is just wonderful.
did you modified your gerbera daisies , they look bit different(in the middle section) from what they teach in the course 4.
