I was so afraid my first attempt at covering a cake with fondant would be an unmitigated disaster, but everything went smoothly. (I grossly overestimated how much tinted fondant I needed, but that's another story.) I did get a bit of cracking on one side of the cake, but it was easily covered with a strip of eyelet trimming. I chose to do a bit of "multimedia" decorating by adding buttercream stems and a royal primrose along with my fondant leaves and gum paste carnations and rose.

Next week, Course 4!

Love the flowers. They look real. Nice work on the eyelet and ball borders.

The key with the roses is to add just a little bit of white gum/fondant mix to each successive layer of petals. The key with the carnations is to let each layer (except the last) dry for about a minute before adding it onto the base/building flower. This fluffs out the layers. Also, I go around each layer twice with the veining tool to make it super raggedy.
