Topic: Finished cakes vs Demo cakes on the TV show
mjo20 04/19/2010 2:21 PM
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the inconsistency in the quality of the finished cakes verses the cakes that they demo on this show? It seems like totally different craftsmanship in the quality -- the show demonstrates on the air a much lower quality than the final product - Im not sure if Nancy is nervous and making mistakes on air, feels rushed, or isn't the person who actually does the final product!

And WHEN will they finally show "how to smooth that icing out once it crusts over" -- Im starting to think Nancy doesn't actually know how to do that...

I think that this show could be much better.

I've never gotten to see the show. What network does it air on?

There are several ways to smooth after the buttercream is dry. You can use wax paper and smooth over with an icing smoother (used for fondant, but works great for buttercream too), you can use a Viva (and only Viva) towel with the icing smoother, or if it is really dry, I use just the icing smoother straight on the icing and it works great for me. You have to make sure it is REALLY dry for that though. Hope this helps.
