I am going to make the Real Tree Topper Cake for my Christmas party at work. The only part I'm unsure of how to do it piping the pine needles. Has anyone done this before and do you have any advice. The instructions call for buttercream icing, but I'm wondering if royal icing would be better??

Thanks for any help you can give.
