Additional Information

Step 1

In advance: Prepare base board. Cover plywood or foamcore board with 48 oz. white fondant. Reserve remaining fondant.

Step 2

Bake and cool 2-layer cakes using firm-textured batter such as pound cake. Each pan will need to be baked twice, iced and stacked together to achieve the full pillow effect. Assemble each cake on a cake board cut to fit. Ice cake smooth and cover top layer with white fondant. Smooth with Fondant Smoother and trim at seam.

Step 3

Place cake board on top of cake and carefully flip to position covered layer at bottom. Tint 72 oz. fondant ivory. Roll out 1/8 in. thick. Imprint fondant with design following Imprint Mat instructions. Cover cake tops with imprinted ivory fondant. Brush with Pearl Dust.

Step 4

Fill in imprint designs using white icing and tip 2. Prepare cakes for Stacked Construction. Pipe tip 6 bead border over seam.

Step 5

Make 4 tassels for each tier. Roll out white fondant 1/16 in. thick. Cut a 4 x 2 1/2 in. wide rectangle. Cut 1/8 x 2 in. deep slits on bottom edge with knife. Roll up strip. Pinch and shape uncut top into a ball. Cut a 1/4 x 1 in. strip. Wrap around tassel under ball, attaching with fondant adhesive. Trim ends for a 2 1/2 in. long tassel. Attach to cake corners with adhesive.

Step 6

At reception: Stack cakes.

*The smallest tier is often saved for the first anniversary. The number of servings given does not include the smallest tier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love the pans, so much easier than carving! Looks stunning. I had a bit of trouble with the fondant on the bottom half of each tier, but after some practice got it looking great. Found if the butter cream was not to cold it stuck better. Really have to be careful when applying the embossed fondant on the top so as not to erase the pattern when smoothing it out. When applying make sure to lay down in center of cake and carefully smooth it as you lay it down. I add the smallest tier to number of servings as I always give the bride and groom a separate cake in a special box for them to take home and save for the first anniversary. (my gift to them)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As long as you are familiar with fondanting a cake, these new pillow pans make you look like a talented cake sculpter. The floral imprint mat is stunning and once you pearlize the entire thing it is a gorgeous sight to behold. As a Wilton instructor, I find these pillow pans to be the hottest thing around right now and will be teaching a trend class on them soon. They are wonderful! If you haven't tried them yet, give them a try. This cake is gorgeous for any occasion, bridal shower, birthday, baby shower, you name it! If you change the colors to bright neon colors that are pearlized for elegance, it even makes a great sweet 16 cake!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I just want to add something to my review. You have to make sure your tops are flat, so you have to cut off a piece off every cake until they're even. That is explained in the video, and is true for any cake, and especially for this one. It's still much easier than carving the entire cake, which I tried once.... Some of my tassels got dry and fell off, but that's because I was forced to put it in the refrigerator, though I know you're not supposed to put fondant in the fridge. (I'm afraid of leaving it out and having the buttercream filling get ruined...)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The video on how to cover pillow cakes is fantastic and deserves a sixth star! I watched it before making this cake. It's true that pillow cakes have the perfect shape for being covered with fondant. Plus the tip for turning the mat over smack onto the cake was priceless. I'm looking forward to trying to rub parchment paper on my buttercream-covered cakes and see if I can finally get a better crust. If you keep posting more videos like that, we'll probably make more and more cakes and use up more products so we'll have to buy more! :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I made the Floral Finery Cake for may son's wedding. Once you make the first layer is easy to continue, and you may use your imagination. For example, I changed the design of the second pillow, using a different imprint mat. The most difficult issue for mi was to keep toghether the two fondant layers. It is a dream cake for many occasions, and I am always using these pans in diferents ways. I have received many congratulations for my cake. So, I would like to congrat you for this amazing pillow pan set.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As a somewhat inexperienced cake decorator, I reviewed the Wilton on-line pillow pan tutorial (found on youtube.com) prior to starting a three-tier princess baby shower cake. Seeing IS believing and it was incredibly detailed as to the baking, leveling, crumb coating and applying fondant processes. I followed all the instructions exactly and the cake turned out even more beautiful than I anticipated. For anyone using the Wilton pillow pans for the first time, the tutorial is must-see.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I did this cake and it turned out wonderfully. I didnt use the fondant because of the crowd I was making it for. I knew those picky eaters may not have liked the fondant even though my homemade fondant is delicious! (It is to me anyway!) Building the cake was the hardest part. It also takes a lot of time and patience. I leveled the cakes and then froze them. The next day I iced the cakes and had to wait for the icing to harden. Then they were smoothed down. I carefully stacked one half on top of the other until the pillows were done. I only used the smallest and middle pan so my cake was only two pillows. I ended up using the graceful vines mat as a outline by gently pressing it into the icing and then filled it with colored icing and a little pearl dust. Overall it was a beautiful cake!
