Those first colors of the season are always a delight?just like our multi-colored cupcakes, with a surprise rose center. The Wilton Two-Tone Cupcake Set makes it easy with an insert that separates batter colors.
Make and decorate cookies one day in advance. Prepare cookie dough following recipe directions. Use rolling pin to roll out 1/8 in. thick. Cut with flower cutter from set. Bake and cool cookies.
Prepare Color Flow icing. Tint portions orange and yellow. Use tip 2 and full-strength orange icing to outline flower. Use thinned orange icing in a cut disposable bag to fill in flower; let dry 4 hours to overnight.
Use tip 2 and full-strength yellow icing to pipe ball center.
Make cupcakes. Prepare yellow batter. Tint 1/3 of batter rose; reserve remaining batter.
Place two-tone insert in baking cup-lined muffin pan. Use a cut disposable decorating bag to fill center ring of insert 2/3 full with rose batter. Use a cut disposable decorating bag to fill outer ring of insert 2/3 full with yellow batter. Remove insert and repeat until all cavities are filled. Remove insert. Bake and cool cupcakes.
Decorate cupcakes. Prepare buttercream icing following recipe. Tint rose. Use tip 2A and rose icing to pipe a swirl on top of cupcakes. Position flower sprinkles. Insert flower cookie.
