Step 1

In advance, pipe 12 ribbon roses four each: yellow, pink and peach. Make extras to allow for breakage and let dry.

Also in advance, make 36 tip 2D drop flowers: 12 each yellow, pink and peach. Make extras to allow for breakage and let dry.

Step 2

Use spatula and white icing to ice 8 in. x 3 in. round cake.

Step 3

Use tip 2 and white icing to pipe lines about 1 in. apart beginning about รณ in. inside the top edge of cake and extending to various lengths down cake sides. Use tip 3 and white icing to randomly pipe dots on either side of lines.

Step 4

Attach roses to top of cake with icing. Use tip 18 and white icing to pipe shell bottom border.

Step 5

Attach drop flowers to shell border. Use tip 352 and green icing to pipe leaves.

Drop flowers are a great way to add flowers quickly. Pipe drop flowers in buttercream directly on your cake, or pipe in royal in advance and place your flowers anywhere. Flowers will be sharper in definition when piped in royal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I made this beautiful cake for my daughters first Birthday. I chose to create the frosting for the cake in a very light green, much lighter than the leaves, and the top layer of flowers in bright pink. I added Wilton pre molded butterflies around the multi colored bottom layer of flowers. For the drizzle, I followed directions given, it is worth the effort! Because we had a very large party with lots of family and small children, i also created mini lookalike cupcakes, with one small pink flower and a butterfly on the edge of the leaf. I placed the cupcakes on a multi tiered platter, and decorated the table with a light green plastic throw away table cover, pink tulle and used light green paper goods. I added butterfly themed plates for a special touch. I used green and pink balloons to decorate the seats, with a special balloon arrangement at the Birthday girls chair. The cake and cupcakes were delicious, and made a spectacular impression that really did not take that long to create. Decorating the cake and cupcakes took about an hour and half or so. This is the perfect cake for any special occasion, and can be personalized with just the right colors. Overall, I really loved this cake idea, and have used it with a few modifications at other events with the same perfect results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This was the first cake I made after the Beginners class. It was also my first attempt at royal icing flowers. It turned out great! Once I got the hang of the roses, it was so much fun. And the colors were beautiful. I baked a french vanilla cake, filled with Wilton's raspberry filling recipe, and I used the cream cheese icing on the cake.
