Every little girl loves fairies, and this Fairy Flight Birthday Cake for Her is a great way to celebrate the magic of birthday wishes come true! Make fondant wings. Tint 4 oz. fondant
violet/rose combination (for violet). Use
9 in. fondant roller with purple guide rings
to roll out fondant 1/8 in. thick. Use knife
and pattern to cut out two wings (reverse
pattern for second wing).
Place wings on cornstarch-dusted cake
boards. Use Color Mist food color spray to
spray wings, first with violet, then with blue,
then with pearl. Let dry 10 to 15 minutes.
Use blue extra-fine tip FoodWriter edible
color marker to draw on freehand scrolls. Let
dry 24 hours away from direct lighting to
1 DAY IN ADVANCE
Bake and cool butterfly cake. Cake is
one layer, 2 in. high. Position cake on foil wrapped
cake board cut to fit, with
small wings upside down on top. Use knife
to trim off butterfly body.
Ice areas smooth. Prepare buttercream
icing following recipe directions. Tint
portions royal blue, teal/kelly green
combination (for teal), sky blue, copper
(for skin tone shown) and black. Reserve
Use spatula and dark blue icing to ice cake
smooth. Use Color Mist food color spray to
lightly spray cake with violet then blue. Let
dry 15 minutes. Use tip 4 and dark blue icing
to pipe bead bottom border.
Decorate body. Position wings on cake,
lining up side edges with edge of cake. Use
skin tone icing to pipe body as follows. Use
tip 1A to pipe ball head, 1 1/4 in. dia. Use tip 12 to pipe outline neck, 1/4 in. long. Use tip 1A
to pipe two beads for body, one for upper
torso and one for lower torso. Use tip 12 to
outline legs, 2 in. long and arms, 1 1/2 in. long.
Add tip 2 pull-out fingers.
Make dress. Tint 1 oz. fondant light sky
blue. Roll out fondant 1/8 in. thick. Use dress
cutter from 4-pc. wedding colored metal cutter set to cut dress. Place dress on
cornstarch-dusted board. Use Color Mist
food color spray to spray with blue, then
purple, then pearl. Let dry 15 minutes.
Position over body. Pinch at waist to

to pipe outline facial features. Use tip 5 and
light blue icing to pipe shoes, 3/8 in. wide x
1 in. long. Use tip 16 and white icing to pipe
stars on cake sides.
