  1. Bake cake. Prepare cake batter following recipe instructions. Bake and cool two cake layers. Level each layer to 1½ in. high. Fill and stack for 3 in. high cake.
  2. Tint icing. Combine Moss Green and Lemon Yellow icing colors to get medium green color shown. Combine Rose and a touch of Sky Blue icing colors to get light magenta color shown. Combine Rose with a touch of Violet icing colors to get light purple color shown. Combine Royal Blue and Juniper Green icing colors to get dark blue color shown. Tint 1 cup icing medium green, 1 cup icing dark blue, ¼ cup icing light magenta and ½ cup icing light purple using color combinations provided. For light green icing, add small amount medium green icing to 3 cups white icing until desired shade is achieved.
  3. Prepare decorating bags. Prepare decorating bags with the following tips and icing colors:

    • Tip 199 – medium green icing
    • Tip 2 – white icing
    • Tip 18 – light magenta icing
    • Tip 8 – spatula stripe bag with light purple icing; fill with dark blue icing

    • Decorate cake. Using spatula and light green icing, roughly ice cake, leaving spatula marks on sides and top of cake.

      Using medium green icing with pull-out star technique, pipe cacti in various heights and sizes. Using light magenta icing, pipe star on top of each cacti. Using white icing, pipe pull-out dots to form needles on cacti ridges.

      Using striped bag with pull-out dot technique, pipe leafy succulents, starting at outside and working towards center.
