Basic Decorating Techniques

Picot

Fine, delicate designs piped onto a cake are commonly referred to as "embroidery". Although some embroidered designs can be rather complex, the simple elegance of picot is easily achieved in freehand with a series of small, easy-to-pipe dots.

  • Practice with tip: 1L
  • Icing consistency: thin
  • Bag Position: 90°
  • Hold tip: slightly above surface

1. Pipe three small dots in an even horizontal line.

2. Pipe two dots below top row, between spaces.

3. Pipe one dot below second row to form a triangle shape.
