Ball

An important technique to master, the ball shape makes bold borders and is the first step to learn for figure piping. Vary the basic look by adding stars, dots or spirals on the ball shapes.

Getting Ready

Set up your practice board.

Insert a coupler base in your Featherweight bag and lock round tip 9 onto it with your coupler ring.

Fill bag half full with medium consistency Buttercream Icing.

Practice with: Tip 9
Icing: medium consistency
Positions:
Bag: 90°
Tip: slightly above the surface

  1. Squeeze the bag, applying steady even pressure. As the icing begins to build up, raise the tip with it, but keep the tip end buried in the icing.
  2. Stop squeezing as you bring the end of the tip to the surface.
  3. Lift the tip up and pull away from your piped ball. Use the edge of the tip to shave off any point so that your ball is nicely rounded.
