A bright bunch of fondant balls and curlicues burst from the top of this fun cake! It really adds to any birthday party. These easy-to-make fondant decorations coordinate perfectly with the Wilton Colorful Circles Cake Boards.
Make curlicues and fondant balls two days in advance. Knead 3/4 teaspoon Gum-Tex into 9 oz. fondant. Tint 1 oz. each: light blue, blue, light green, green, light yellow, yellow, light orange, orange and red.
For curlicues, use fondant roller with pink guide rings to roll out tinted fondant, separately, 1/16 in. thick. Use fondant trimmer to cut 12 strips, 1/8 in. x 13 in., in various colors. Reserve remaining tinted fondant. Make fondant curlicues. Let dry 24 hours on parchment paper-covered board.
For fondant balls, use reserved tinted fondant to make large, medium and small balls in various colors. Use 3/8 oz. each to make four large balls, 1 in. balls; 1/4 oz. each to make six medium balls, 7/8 in.; and 1/8 oz. each to make three small balls, 3/4 in. balls. Reserve remaining tinted fondant.
Make cake. Prepare batter following recipe directions. Bake and cool cake. Cake is one-layer, 3 inches high. Place on cake board.
Cover cake with fondant. Prepare cake for rolled fondant. Use 20 in. fondant roller with orange guide rings to roll out 18 oz. white fondant 1/8 in. thick. Cover cake with fondant.
Decorate cake. Use tip 4 and white icing to pipe bead border.
Prepare thinned fondant adhesive. Use thinned fondant adhesive to attach streamers and balls to top of cake.
For fondant circles, use 9 in. fondant roller with pink guide rings to roll out reserved tinted fondant, separately, 1/16 in. thick. Use narrow end of tip 12 to cut circles in various colors. Use fondant adhesive to attach circles to cake.
