Choose the right cake box size the same way you choose a cake board to hold your cake. The box should be sized to the base board of your cake, about 1 or 2 inches larger than your cake so that the sides won’t crush the cake.
Make certain that you secure your cake to the board with icing to prevent shifting during transport. If the box is too big, roll pieces of masking tape and attach to the bottom of the box to secure the board after placement. Close all tabs securely after you’ve placed the cake.
When you and your cake arrive at their destination, open the top and sides, then slide the cake out at the side, rather than lift from the top.
